Denim, Denim, and Denim

Again, sorry to not have posted in awhile. Wish I had more pictures and things to intrigue you with but until then, here is a short post about (yes, you guessed it) DENIM. With fall fast approaching, you've got to be thinking about what your wardrobe will be. I recommend buying 1) colored denim. It's been popular for awhile now and you can trade in your bright pinks and corals for deep reds and emeralds.
Next look for a pair of cool 2) patterned jeans. Snakeskin is so cool, as well as cheetah print (in a gray it's not as overwhelming). Striped jeans are a favorite :)
And lastly but certainly not least, 3) metallic denim is a must. A sleek silver or cool copper pair will replace your plain dark skinnies. With soft knit sweaters they are a perfect look for fall.

Leather Vest

I've had an oversized leather vest in my closet for a couple years now, never worn. It's cute but I could never seem do to anything about the way the lapels stuck out so I put it away and didn't look back. But then I figured out a simple way to fix it (not sure why I didn't think of this before)! All I had to do was sew down the top and bottom, 10 minutes and it's perfect. So now I'm coming up with a bunch of ideas of how to wear it. The one above are two of them. A vest over a long white tee is comfortable in a chic way for autumn. To keep the color to a minimum black jeans or leggings work and then a mix of different accessories give the outfit a different feel. For a busy day running around town, my lovely leopard loafers are comfy, plus a bright bag and rings to add some quirk. For a night out, cool studded heels and a deep red clutch add a sophisticated edge to the plain ensemble. Other ideas consist of swithcing out the jeans for light-wash cutoffs (works for summer nights). Or throw it on over a band tee (Aerosmith, the beatles) for a literal rock'n'roll look. It even works with a romper and sandal heels for a starbucks trip in the city.

Mary Kate and Ashley

The Olsen twins are some of my fashion icons. I love the way they are polished yet pull off the grungy chic look effortlessly. I love the white shift dress in the first picture and even more the pairing of classic pointy-toe pump with denim shorts and a gray tee. More posts coming soon about my favorite fashion designers and styles (Rachel Zoe and Nicole Richie!)

Update!

I have been thinking a lot about what I will be wearing when the school year comes back around. Specifically about versatile pieces that will make me stand out amongst the rest of my classmates who think bedazzled yoga pants will suffice, but still be comfy and easy enough to get into in the cold gray mornings of fall. So during the Nordstrom Annual Sale this weekend, I went with my family and friend (Kelly) and invested in some Steve Madden shoes to start. First I bought these leopard loafers (instead of the pointed flat, didn't look right on me). In my opinion, Steve Madden has the best leopard prints ever and yes I am picky about animal print. Very easy to slip on with a pair of jeans (colored or no) a loose tee or tank, leather jacket, and go. I also plan on wearing it with a black shirtdress of mine from Urban Outfitters. Next I finally bought combat boots, again by the amazing Steve Madden. With silver studs on the toe and heel they're edgy and bold enough not blend with the sea of combat boots being worn at my school. Lastly I went up to BP (where, have I mentioned, I will be apart of the Fashion Board this coming September? Very excited, not sure what's in store but looking to find out) and bought a beautiful black cotton maxi dress. Pictures will definitely be coming soon. Some tips for fall key pieces: Colored denim (look for jewel tones, emerald, ruby, sapphire, or my favorite maroon or even mustard). A pair of awesome black boots, may they be combat, motorcycle, suede, flat or heeled. Cool jewelry that will dress up any plain outfit, a cool pair of loafers or flats with something special, and lastly a big comfy sweater (mine is in mint and goes with so many of my things).
And to wrap up this very long and informative post, I added a picture of my Strawberry Shortcake that I made. Twas delicious.

Photo Shoot!

SO sorry I haven't made a post in awhile. I've been dying to, but had to wait until I got my laptop fixed and returned to me. Now that I have it back I am very excited to post these photos taken by me and a friend. We were having some fun in my backyard and it was so pretty and sunny outside. I picked the best photos, hope you enjoy!

Grunge Chic

Finally, one of my polyvore sets. I wanted to create the vision I had for my new studded stilettos. If I only had that jacket... and that bag <3 The shoes are actually Christian Louboutin's, who doesn't love his shoes, there's one for everybody, as there is such a wide range of styles.
I'm busy enjoying the sunny weather which really means being lazy and hanging out with friends. BBQ tomorrow at my friend's house, I'll try to post some pictures. Then off to Saturday Market (planning on wearing my Steve Madden platforms with boyfriend jeans, a plain top, coral-y lips, and a cool pony-tail). Hope you're having a fantastic summer!

Sparkles and Shoes

Here is the latest news of my life of friends and fashion: I got a couple of friends together Monday night and yes, we went bowling. First to dinner where we hung out and got to talk a bit, then off to the lanes where instead of putting our real names in, I made us all choose "stripper" names. Mine was Sparkles, along with Lola, Cheri, and Bubbles. Needless to say, it was a fun night. There's a picture of the four of us, and then one of me and my bff, Kelly. Then, yesterday my glorious Steve Madden Platforms arrived, and I attempted to model them in these two pictures (love my neon yellow pedi with the leopard). And just as soon I found these studded point-toe heels that I ordered this afternoon. With boyfriend jeans and a tee they will be perfect :)

Fireworks, Lace, and more

While I did not do much on the fourth of July, I did enjoy the beautiful sunny weather at home and once the sun set I was able to watch hundreds of fireworks set off over the city (we have a great view). It reminded me of the falling stars in Howl's Moving Castle, the way the lights flew up in all colors. Second, I had to share my love of Allison's dress in the finale of America's Next Top Model, All Stars season. Created by Michael Cinco, the combined sweet and sexy of the lace and fit is gorgeous. Lastly, and a complete contradiction, is one of the pieces from Rachel Zoe's collection. I love this double breasted dress, if I ever went to London and decided to blow a couple hundred this would be my pick. Also, I recently discovered the blog of Ashley Madekwe, Ring My Bell, and am loving her effortlessly chic look. Especially how she wears her neon Christian Louboutin's <3
Awaiting the arrival of my leopard Steve Madden sandals. With my new neon yellow pedicure I shall pair them with stylish 70's jeans, a red lip for class, and whatever top I choose.

Floral Finds

My latest find: a floral blazer from BP. I found it while shopping with a friend the other day and now it's got me thinking all about chic blazers and how to wear them. I love the outfit (second picture) with the neon peplum skirt, it's so on-trend. There's also the popular floral on floral and I happen to have a pair of white shorts with blue flowers (2nd picture in my Shorts! post) that will go perfectly. See my set made previously for floral on floral: http://www.polyvore.com/floral_on/set?id=48414741
I also love the idea of a white and black striped blazer for a graphic element to add to a plain black maxi dress. So chic. And of course I had to make it come to life (as much as I could), so I made a set last night: http://www.polyvore.com/be_yourself_everyone_else_is/set?id=52414922
Lastly, I had to throw in a picture I took of my friend, Shana, in the neon pink 5 inch heels I found in the store (I forced her into them for this pic, not her style but so cute on her).

Inspiration

I'm not entirely sure what the theme of this post is supposed to be so I went with the very vague title of Inspiration. I was thinking of designers, people, places, etc. that I go to looking for what's new and never been done before. Remembering Project Runway All Star's winner, Mondo Guerra, and his amazing printed dress, I simply had to add it to this post. His eccentric style somehow works all together even with his numerous prints and colors. Then, quite the opposite, I picked this photo of one of my favorite bloggers (Fashion Toast), because I love her minimalist style. And finally, a little American pride and one of the coolest shoes I've seen by none other than Jeffrey Campbell. So take a risk with a print or a new style, even a crazy shoe... That's kind of a theme, right? Happy 4th of July!
